Book Character Day 2013
Check out our Book Character Day, Thanks Whaea Jacq for making this cool video!
Scallopini Bake
A few weeks ago, Tai brought a strange looking vegetable to school. We had to google it! Whaea Charlotte helped us figure out it was a white scallopini - which is a bit like a zucchini or a pumpkin.

We had to go back to google to find a recipe to cook up our scallopini. Here are our ingredients and materials.
After - ready to taste!
Check out the room 2 kids page to read some our our writing, describing what it tasted like.

Week 4!
Awesome Alliteration from Alice Keeling on Vimeo.
On friday we learnt about words that start with the same sound (a fancy name for this is alliteration). We read the nursery rhyme 'Sing a song of Sixpence' and then thought about words that started with the same letter as our own names. Above are our awesome alliteration attempts!!
Also this week we went down to our RITO garden to see what we 'recognised.' Thanks to Shania and Pafuti for being our photographers.

A week of visits!
This week was full of visits and we loved it!
First up on Wednesday was a wonderful visit from one of the new Christchurch City Library Vans - full of books, magazines and cool chairs that looked like space ships! Our visitors also brought some fantastic stories and costumes to share also. I think we have some future Oscar winners in room 2!
Our second visit got everyone very excited... this week we met our Roots of Empathy teacher Whaea Ronnie, our lovely Roots of Empathy Mum, Teresa and baby Freddie. We are looking forward to getting to know Freddie and watch him grow and learn! So much so in fact - Tai asked if Freddie could come back to see us tomorrow (Saturday!)
Here's the website if you want to find out more about roots of empathy around the world.

Week 2 Update
Another full on this week for room 2 and no mid-week holiday either! I think we did pretty well and have achieved some fantastic learning already.
This week we've continued to build stamina in our reading. See:
This week, we met Whaea Charlotte who is going to teach us once a week. She was lovely and she tired us out at PE! Here is her bike - what a cool way to get to school!
We have been setting goals in our writing this week and last. Here Ngaikiha has already achieved her first two goals.
Our big book this week was 'Lavalava' by Lino Nelisi. Little did we know we had two lavalavas in our classroom already. Thanks Tai and Tasneem for modelling them!
On Friday Afternoon, we had a visit from the people at Downer. They taught us all about how to be safe around road works and what it is they are doing under our roads. Thanks Downer!
