Week 1 in review

It may have been a short week but lots happened in room 2. Here are just some of the highlights:

Check out Jojo's new Outfit!
A giant thank you to Ngaikiha and Ngaikiha's Nana for Jojo's wonderful christmas present of hat, pants, socks and scarf! They are a perfect fit. How very thoughtful!

Jojo's been watching out for tamariki who can make good choices about thier learning and behaviour now that we are back at school. Here is Seth and his silly sentence from phonics - what fantastic learning he is doing!

On Friday we went to the library to choose some good fit books. Did you know Books are just like shoes! We know how to choose a book that suits our interest and that we can understand. Just like Shania here:

Welcome Back!

WOW - is it that time again? It is and what a wonderful Day One we had!

It's fantastic to see familiar smiley faces back in the playground and in Room 2. Check out some of these pictures from today's Daily 5 Reading refresher session. We managed 9mins of independent 'read to self.' I was very impressed, well done everyone!

Newsletters will go home tomorrow. Stationary Packs available from the office, please purchase by Friday 8th February. Don't forget Waitangi Day on Wednesday means a split week.

Counting Backwards

In Room 2 we love finding cool learning songs and raps off you-tube. A few weeks ago Whaea ALice found a counting backwards video from another New Zealand school. We thought it was so cool we should make our own video.

Over the last three weeks on Friday's we have been on working making the number posters we needed. It's been a big cooperative task and we have had to learn lots about working in a group and being thoughtful and including everyone.

Here's the final result:

Our Garden Harvest

Summer is definitely here - just look at our community garden!! In the last few weeks we have enjoyed picking and eating wonderful fresh produce!

Wonderful Work on Writing

This term, in Te Rito Room 2 we have been working on becoming successful and independent writers.

Here are some of our goal sheets - showcasing wonderful writing and setting a high standard for others to follow.

This term, we were lucky enough to have an extra whiteboard in our classroom and it has been a favourite activity for all Te Rito 2 Tamariki at Work on Writing Time during the Daily 5.

Shreya wrote this great piece of writing about our Garden Harvest last week. We reread and made it better by adding full stops and capital letters. Thanks Shreya for sharing your writing with us!

Told you - our new whiteboard was a popular Writing activity. Here is a piece of work Shreya and Rishap worked on together. Great team work!

Meanwhile Alize has been busy in work on writing time, writing and illustrating her own book about being nice. On Friday she made it into a e-book including adding her voice to it also.

Hopefully we can share this book across the ipads so we can all enjoy listening to Alize's story during 'listening to reading.'

Good Job, Alize!
