Look at what we planted in our school garden at lunchtime. We have also planted a row of carrots and spinach. Thanks Brandon, Jordan, Savou and Rishap!

A week of visits!

This week was full of visits and we loved it!
First up on Wednesday was a wonderful visit from one of the new Christchurch City Library Vans - full of books, magazines and cool chairs that looked like space ships! Our visitors also brought some fantastic stories and costumes to share also. I think we have some future Oscar winners in room 2!

Our second visit got everyone very excited... this week we met our Roots of Empathy teacher Whaea Ronnie, our lovely Roots of Empathy Mum, Teresa and baby Freddie. We are looking forward to getting to know Freddie and watch him grow and learn! So much so in fact - Tai asked if Freddie could come back to see us tomorrow (Saturday!)

Here's the website if you want to find out more about roots of empathy around the world.

Week 2 Update

Another full on this week for room 2 and no mid-week holiday either! I think we did pretty well and have achieved some fantastic learning already.

This week we've continued to build stamina in our reading. See:

This week, we met Whaea Charlotte who is going to teach us once a week. She was lovely and she tired us out at PE! Here is her bike - what a cool way to get to school!

We have been setting goals in our writing this week and last. Here Ngaikiha has already achieved her first two goals.
Our big book this week was 'Lavalava' by Lino Nelisi. Little did we know we had two lavalavas in our classroom already. Thanks Tai and Tasneem for modelling them!

On Friday Afternoon, we had a visit from the people at Downer. They taught us all about how to be safe around road works and what it is they are doing under our roads. Thanks Downer!

Week 1 in review

It may have been a short week but lots happened in room 2. Here are just some of the highlights:

Check out Jojo's new Outfit!
A giant thank you to Ngaikiha and Ngaikiha's Nana for Jojo's wonderful christmas present of hat, pants, socks and scarf! They are a perfect fit. How very thoughtful!

Jojo's been watching out for tamariki who can make good choices about thier learning and behaviour now that we are back at school. Here is Seth and his silly sentence from phonics - what fantastic learning he is doing!

On Friday we went to the library to choose some good fit books. Did you know Books are just like shoes! We know how to choose a book that suits our interest and that we can understand. Just like Shania here:
