Painting Tiles to fill the Gap

Last Friday, Room 2 had the opportunity to paint some tiles with images of Richmond and their community. These tiles are going to be placed in Churchhill Park on Guild St as part of a gap filler organised by students of the Student Volunteer army.

We were very excited to be able to draw and paint our favourite parts of the community. Tai and Iveni talked about their friends and family being important, Rishap said the trees and the environment were important for him and lots of tamariki said 'Room 2' and 'Richmond School' were important too... I agree!

Student Volunteers...

Have a close look at these photos of our outdoor classroom area... do you notice anything different?

Look closer...

Have you figured it out yet?

This weekend we had some amazing volunteers, organised by a group of University of Canterbury students, came and gave up part of their weekend to re-paint our picnic tables and benches. It is all a part of the Student Volunteer Army's 'The Concert': a massive musical line-up with a twist.  The only way to get tickets is to do 4 hour volunteering in the community.

If you're interested in earning a ticket: http://www.theconcert.co.nz/

What a fantastic example of volunteer spirit these young adults have shown our young people at Richmond School! They have really made an impact on the future of our school and made our outdoor classroom area look in top form! Bring on summer !!

Watch this space, as this is not all these successful volunteers have offered our school community...

Daily 5: We love Reading!

Here's a few pics from today's Daily 5. This week we have made a big step towards becoming independent readers and writers - we now can choose our own reading activities every day and stay on-task for longer!

Can you guess which part of the Daily 5 we are working on:

Read to Self
Read to Someone
Listen to reading
Word Work

A Thoughtful Gift

Wow! It's been a full on week in Te Rito Room 2, not only is it the last week of swimming but on Monday, Riley brought a magnificent chocolate cake to share with us all.

What a thoughtful thing to do, it really brightened up our moods! Riley even thought of the adults and brought us some marshmellows!

Thanks Riley!
